To gain more insight into the world of lighting design, we caught up with the EBB & FLOW founder and lighting designer Susanne Nielsen who shares the inspiration behind her designs, introduces her latest design creation, and provides lighting tips for the home.

Light through colours and the use of colours in glass inspire the designs created by Scandinavian lighting company EBB & FLOW’s founder Susanne Nielsen

‘I have a foot firmly placed in the classic world of vintage glass and colours, and I aim to translate this into modern design classics that will also be great to look at years from now.’

A decade ago, Susanne came to the realisation lighting was either purely functional, very low budget or extremely top budget and asked, ‘Where was the warm beautiful lighting in the middle?!’

From there, ignited the idea for her artisan lighting company EBB & FLOW.  All lights at EBB & FLOW are designed by Susanne who’s designs are inspired by perfume bottles, jewelry and British antique markets.

Susanne's lighting designs focus on organic shapes, raw materials and eye for detail and are handmade.

A large space would call for larger lamps. But in general, the height of a room as well as the general space available is key… you want lamps to be a great installation but not overtake the space. The taller the space, the taller the lamp.
